Boys & Girls Club Volleyball League – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’)
1. What grades are eligible to participate in the volleyball league?
Boys and girls in grades 3rd-6th and attend a Roseburg School District school or are home schooled, attend a private school and reside withing Roseburg are welcome to join. Players will be grouped in appropriate age divisions to ensure a safe and fair playing environment, 3rd grade, 4th/5th grade combined and 6th
2. Do players need any prior volleyball experience?
No experience necessary! This league is designed for beginners and recreational players to learn and have fun.
3. When and what are “Opening Day Ceremony’s”?
“Opening Day Ceremony’s” will be held on Sept. 19th, 2026, at the Boys & Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley. It is a day for all teams, coaches, parents and friends to come together and celebrate the kick-off to another incredible season with team photos, parade of teams, friendly competitions for both players and coaches, a food truck and tons of fun. You will not want to miss this!
4. When and where are practices held?
Practices are held 2-3 times per week at local Roseburg School district schools. Exact days and times will be announced by the team coach. Practices will begin after September 14, 2026.
5. How long does the season last?
The season lasts 7 weeks total, this includes 6 weeks of games and one tournament with a bye week (no games Nov. 7th, 2026) prior to the tournament. The season is Sept. 26 -Nov. 14, 2026.
6. What equipment does my child need to participate?
Players should wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothing. Knee pads are highly recommended. Team jerseys are provided by the club for participants to keep even after the season.
7. Is volleyball a contact sport?
No, volleyball is considered a non-contact sport. Players remain on their side of the court and physical contact is minimal.
8. Are games played against other teams or just in-house?
Games are played both in-house and against outside teams within Douglas County.
9. Who will coach the teams?
Most teams are coached by parent volunteers. You do not have to be a parent to volunteer to coach, however. All coaches must complete an extensive background check which includes fingerprints and online safety training.
10. Can parents volunteer to help?
Yes! Parent volunteers are welcome and appreciated. All volunteers must complete a background check which includes fingerprints and online safety training.
11. Are there different divisions for age or skill levels?
Yes and no. Teams are grouped by grade and school, not skill level.
12. How are the teams formed?
Teams are formed at each Roseburg School District school on a first come first serve basis, by date and time, until maximum team size is reached. Combined teams will be formed to accommodate players if there is not enough to fill a team at their school, or maximum number of players per team is reached. Please note that we do not take request for team placement and all players are required to receive equal playing time.
13. Can I request that my child be placed on a specific team?
No, we do not take request for team placement.
14. How do I register my child, and what’s the cost?
You can register your child from May 4 – Sept. 4, 2026 by visiting our office during office hours 9am – 5pm, Mon-Friday. The fee is based on a sliding scale. Registration fee includes team jersey.
