Recreational Flag Football League FAQs – 2026

1. Who can sign up for the flag football league?

Boys and girls in grades 3rd-5th and attend a Roseburg School District school or are home schooled, attend a private school and reside withing Roseburg are welcome to join. Players will be grouped in age-appropriate divisions to ensure a safe and fair playing environment.

2. Do players need prior experience to join?

No experience is necessary! Our league is recreational and designed to teach fundamentals while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun.

3. When and what are “Opening Day Ceremony’s”?

“Opening Day Ceremony’s” will be held on Sept. 19th, 2026, at the Boys & Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley. It is a day for all teams, coaches, parents and friends to come together and celebrate the kick-off to another incredible season with team photos, parade of teams, friendly competitions for both players and coaches, a food truck and tons of fun. You will not want to miss this!

4. When does the season start and how long does it run?

Registration is open on May 4 and ends on September 4, 2026. The season begins on Sept. 26 and ends on October 31, 2026, with a “Jamboree” in the earlier part of the day on Oct. 31, 2026 (6 weeks).

5. Where are practices and games held?

Practices are held 2-3 times per week at local Roseburg School District schools. Exact days and times will be announced by the team coach. Practices will begin after September 14, 2026. The majority of games will be held in Roseburg with a few Saturdays traveling to other locations in Douglas County. All games will be held every Saturday from September 26 – October 31, 2026.

6. What equipment is required?

Players should wear athletic shoes or football cleats (no metal cleats), comfortable athletic wear (no pockets), and we will provide them with a team jersey to keep. Flag belts will be provided by the coach at practice and games. Mouthguards are required.

7. How often do teams practice and play games?

Practices are held 2-3 times per week. Games will be held every Saturday during the season (6 weeks).

8. Is flag football a contact sport?

Flag football is considered a non-contact sport. Physical blocking, tackling, or pushing is not allowed. Players may use screen blocking, which means positioning themselves between the defender and ball carrier without making physical contact. Some blocking may include elbows in and palms out.

9. Can parents volunteer to coach or help?

Absolutely! We encourage parents and guardians to get involved as coaches, assistant coaches or helpers. All volunteer coaches and parent volunteers must complete an extensive background check which includes fingerprints and online safety training.

10. How do I register my child?

You can register your child  in person by visiting our office during office hours 9am – 5pm, Monday-Friday.

11. How are teams formed?

Teams are formed at each Roseburg School District school on a first come first serve basis, by date and time, until the maximum team size is reached. Combined teams will be formed to accommodate players if there is not enough to fill a team at their school, or maximum number of players per team is reached. Please note that we do not take request for team placement and all players are required to receive equal playing time.

12. Can I request that my child be placed on a specific team?

No, we do not take request for team placement.

13. Is there a cost to participate?

Yes, there is a registration fee to play, however, that is based on a sliding scale and income verification.
